This area has hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters, just like the Mediterranean climate of the Bay Area! Note: if it gets hot and dry enough this plant can go dormant over the summer. In dormancy the rosettes close right up to the point where you can only see a little bit of green poking out. Don't panic, this is normal behavior as this plant does all its growing in the winter months and flowers in late spring before going dormant. I've had it flower as early as late March but it can be as late as June.
